Reduction of carbon emissions from our fleet of vehicles and energy consumption is a long-term, ongoing project.
Greenhouse gases are considered one of the main causes of climate change and according to most environmental agencies; this is a major threat to life as we know it. Lyreco want to do their part to reduce CO2 emissions.
Through the process of setting up our Environmental Management System in 1998, it became evident that running an extensive network of trunkers, vans and cars across the UK and Republic of Ireland had as negative a consequence on the environment as it had positive on our service level. Reduction of pollution from our vehicle network had to receive immediate focus as an improvement programme. We employ double deck trailers to reduce road miles and emissions wherever possible. With the benefit of our won distribution vehicles, we are able to control van routes and drops very closely through our SAP system. Lyreco encourage customers and suppliers to order and deliver strategically so as to reduce needless journeys.
Energy consumption has been the subject of more recent debate; escalating costs and heightened awareness surrounding the amount of energy wasted by appliances left on unnecessarily has resulted in a programme to monitor activity more closely at Head Office and target a reduction during 2007 and 2008.
